Run Alton Towers 5k & 10k

PLEASE NOTE: THERE IS FREE PARKING ON THE DAY OF THE EVENT

(Use the words ///pegs.proves.moved for exact event village location).

The Event Village and car park will be open from 7:00am, with the monorail operating from 7:30am.

We recommend you arrive as early as possible, as with many large sporting events there will be traffic coming into the venue. Please aim to enter the car park between 7am and 8am.

5k – 10:18am

 

Race Packs

If you entered before Tuesday 2nd November, you will receive a race pack in the post. If you entered after this date, a pack will be waiting for you to collect on the day. If you are expecting a pack in the post and do not receive it by Friday 12th November, please bring your confirmation email to the information point outside the turnstile.

If you are collecting your race pack, please make your way to the registration desks between the times below. It will take around 10 minutes to collect your number and drop your bag off. The earlier you get there, the more efficient we will be on the day.

Collection Times:
10k – 7:30 – 9:00am
5k – 7:30 – 9:10am

 

Race Start

After the warm-up, estimated finish times will be called to the starting pen where our marshals will guide you into a start formation.

 

Travel

By Car

Alton Towers Resort is located between the M1 and the M6 and is well signposted from both motorways. Depending on your direction, the nearest motorway exits are:
M1 Northbound – Junction 23a
M1 Southbound – Junction 28
M6 Northbound – Junction 15
M6 Southbound – Junction 16

Please drive with care when you’re in the area, as there are many walkers, cyclists and horse riders, and the roads can be very thin in places.

Some Sat Nav systems may take you down a local farm track (especially if you’re coming from the B5417). Please follow the road signs for the last few miles.

Please be aware that the B5417 is closed until 8th May, guests arriving to the Resort from the Ashbourne direction should follow diversion signs.

By Train

Visitors can travel to Alton Towers Resort by train, via several popular destinations. Visit thetrainline.com to search for train times and prices.

Uttoxeter Train Station:
Uttoxeter station is the nearest train station to Alton Towers, just 10 miles from the resort. Uttoxeter station is just a 20 minute drive away from the resort or 30 minutes by bus.

Stoke on Trent Station:
Stoke on Trent rail station is 15 miles from Alton Towers Resort. A local taxi would take around 25 minutes to the resort.

Derby Train Station:
Derby train station is around 25 miles from Alton Towers. From there you will need to order a taxi or a car service to arrive at the resort in around 50 minutes to one hour.

We also have bicycle racks close to the theme park entrance, for local visitors and keen cyclists to utilise free of charge.

 

Toilets

There will be plenty of portable toilets located near the start/finish line near the Towers.

Baggage

We strongly recommend leaving in your car or with a spectator. You will be able to return to your vehicle after the race and re-enter the resort – make sure to get your hand stamped on the way out!

If you do use our informal baggage area, please pick up your bag after the race before enjoying the attractions.

During the race

The course starts in front of the iconic Towers. You will then run around the resort past all of the major attractions and rides before finishing back in front of the Towers.

There will be marshals all around the course as well as KM markers for the 5k & 10k. The 5k markers will be RED and the 10k markers will be YELLOW.

Spitting and nasal clearance during the race is NOT permitted.

Refreshments

There will be water on the course and also at the finish. Please bring your own water to the event to avoid congestion on the course. We recommend staying hydrated in the lead up to the event.

Spectators

Spectator tickets can be purchased here.

If your friends and family have already purchased a spectator ticket they will be sent a separate email to the address used when purchasing their ticket. This will have details of how to claim and download their ticket for entry into Alton Towers.

They will need to have the ticket printed or the scannable code ready on their phone in order to enter the turnstiles on the day. Without a ticket spectators will not be allowed into the park.

Resort Timings:

Cbeebies/X-Sector/Mutiny Bay  – open from 11am
Whole Park – open from 11:45am
Rides Close – 6pm
Park Closes – 7pm


After the race

Do NOT stop within the finish area. Please continue through the finish until you pass the medals and are in an open space.

There will be sealed ACTIPH water bottles at the finish for each runner to collect along with your medal, Love Corn, and Kind Snack bar which will be laid out on tables for you to help yourself.

We will have a photographer taking a few snaps of the race and they will be on Facebook after the race so be sure to check it out and see if you can spot yourself.

Free lateral flow tests are now being offered by the Government for everybody in the community to help stop the spread of COVID-19. These can even be ordered to your home, further information can be found HERE.
